Artist Bio

 

Shannon’s inter­est in pho­tog­ra­phy emerged along­side her curios­ity for explor­ing other cul­tures. Out in the world, she found her­self cap­tur­ing the every­day details of a place. ” I have always been drawn to the real­ness in nat­ural ges­tures, expres­sions and envi­ron­ments of my sub­jects,” she said. “I think there is some­thing beau­ti­ful in that nat­ural state and place that reflects the inner psy­chol­ogy of the indi­vid­ual and there­fore offers a stronger rep­re­sen­ta­tion of them.”

In late 90’s, Shan­non took her approach to Vancouver’s Emily Carr Insti­tute of Art and Design where she was awarded schol­ar­ships for a body of work explor­ing con­tem­po­rary Cuban cul­ture. The CUBA LUMINOSA exhibit and instal­la­tion gar­nered inter­est province-wide, includ­ing a seg­ment on CBC’s, North by North West.

After receiv­ing her BFA from ECIAD, she began her career shoot­ing edi­to­r­ial pho­tog­ra­phy. Shannon’s first port­fo­lio explored peo­ple and their hob­bies by using mul­ti­ple images to cel­e­brate the indi­vid­ual through their after-work obsessions.

Today, the Van­cou­ver based Artist con­tin­ues to shoot reportage and por­traits for national and inter­na­tional pub­li­ca­tions. Shan­non also car­ries over her edi­to­r­ial aes­thetic and sto­ry­telling skills to cre­ate images for inde­pen­dent fash­ion design­ers like DACE and TANNIS HEGAN, book pub­lish­ers like D&M and Time­out Lon­don, as well as, com­mer­cial and cor­po­rate work.
