Artist Bio
Shannon’s interest in photography emerged alongside her curiosity for exploring other cultures. Out in the world, she found herself capturing the everyday details of a place. ” I have always been drawn to the realness in natural gestures, expressions and environments of my subjects,” she said. “I think there is something beautiful in that natural state and place that reflects the inner psychology of the individual and therefore offers a stronger representation of them.”
In late 90’s, Shannon took her approach to Vancouver’s Emily Carr Institute of Art and Design where she was awarded scholarships for a body of work exploring contemporary Cuban culture. The CUBA LUMINOSA exhibit and installation garnered interest province-wide, including a segment on CBC’s, North by North West.
After receiving her BFA from ECIAD, she began her career shooting editorial photography. Shannon’s first portfolio explored people and their hobbies by using multiple images to celebrate the individual through their after-work obsessions.
Today, the Vancouver based Artist continues to shoot reportage and portraits for national and international publications. Shannon also carries over her editorial aesthetic and storytelling skills to create images for independent fashion designers like DACE and TANNIS HEGAN, book publishers like D&M and Timeout London, as well as, commercial and corporate work.
